Protein and weight loss

Protein and weight loss

Why consume protein?

The human body is a fascinating machine. Her waterproof skin repairs itself. We breathe, walk, digest ... without the intervention of thought. Yet without adequate food and water, this fantastic vehicle slowly and inexorably deteriorates.

A healthy diet consists of animal and / or vegetable proteins, fruits and vegetables and grains. All these foods are made up of carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins.

The protein are nitrogen compounds. That is, they contain nitrogen in addition to carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, sometimes sulfur and other elements as well. Of the three food categories, proteins are the only ones to contain nitrogen ... hence their importance in the diet. Lean meat and egg whites are formed almost exclusively from protein. However, these are not the only sources of these food substances. It is also found in fruits, vegetables and grains.

Chemically, proteins are blocks of matter made up of units called amino acids. Each protein is characterized by the number and identity of the amino acids it contains. Very few proteins contain all of the known amino acids, of which there are around 25. The soybean is an exception, it contains them all.

Proteins: building materials

The muscles and tissues of the human body, from a global or cellular point of view, are largely composed of proteins. The main function of foods that contain a lot of it is to provide the human body with "building materials", which are amino acids. While all the macronutrients (carbohydrates, fats and proteins) are important, proteins are responsible for building our framework. They are therefore vital.

And, contrary to popular belief, protein doesn't make you fat any more than other macronutrients. In fact, since they take longer to digest than foods high in carbohydrates and fat, they provide a feeling of fullness that lasts much longer thus acting as a appetite suppressant. If you've consumed your daily amount of protein, you can be sure that you won't feel hungry until your next meal.

So if you are considering losing weight, make sure you are eating the protein your body needs.
Otherwise, consider getting a protein meal replacement.
If you do not have time to eat well in the morning, your "shake" made from soy, almond or cow's milk, a good amount of protein and your favorite fruits will be a pledge of good. best early start.
