Back-to-school: Parents, how to handle your stress?

With the start of the school year knocking on our door and complete uncertainty about the progress of this pandemic, it is understandable that parents and children are experiencing a great deal of stress and anxiety.

So, parents, how can you manage your stress during these difficult times?

Of course, there are some mindset and routine changes that will certainly help and we'll explore those. There are also many natural products and supplements that can help you during these times and afterwards.

First of all, try to accept the fact that things may be uncertain for a while. The COVID-19 situation is constantly changing, which means that we are required to modify our expectations all the time. This requires flexible thinking and a willingness to tolerate uncertainty, as none of us have all the answers right now.

Acknowledge how you feel instead of trying to deny or bury that emotion. While you may be tempted to bury or run away from unpleasant emotions like anxiety, it is much less emotionally and cognitively draining to simply accept and acknowledge that emotion head on. You'll find it easier to do this if you remember that feelings come and go, like clouds moving across the sky. Sure, you feel anxious right now, but that emotion won't stay with you forever. It's just how you feel right now.

Look for opportunities to meet your own needs instead of just giving to others over and over again. Parents have had to carry a huge load over the past few months, and it's not going to get any better. That's why it's more important than ever to take the best care of yourself. Taking care of yourself doesn't have to be huge or complicated: it can be as simple as taking a few minutes to do something you love or connecting with someone who understands and cares about you; it can also mean making sure your body gets what it needs to function at its best: nutritious food, adequate sleep and opportunities to move. Taking care of yourself isn't selfish, it's self-preservation!

Natural products that can help you

Aromatherapy (bath teas, roll-ons, diffusers)

While aromatherapy is not the magical "panacea" it is sometimes made out to be, it does seem to have a proven track record of success as a means of reducing stress. Aromatherapy is a good tool for stress relief because it has few (if any) known side effects, it can be used passively (you can scent the room while you're engaged in other activities, thus relieving stress), and it can be easily combined with other stress-relief methods (like massage or meditation, for example) for added relief. Let these soothing aromas calm you down, even for a moment. Enjoy them before bed for total relaxation.

Cervalin

Cervalin will naturally calm your brain and help you fall asleep when that hamster hasn't stopped spinning! The ultimate product for people with anxiety or stress, Cervalin will naturally relax you and give you a restful sleep, which we all need these days!

B-Complex

Helps maintain normal nervous system function, balance mood and reduce anxiety.

What about the children?

Like parents, children can experience anxiety and stress about the start of the school year. This is the case every year, but with the uncertainty of the pandemic, the mask and hand sanitizer craze, there's no doubt that this confusing situation can scare some children, especially those in elementary school and those entering high school or college for the very first time.
